Sometimes I have the privilege of shooting people I know well. This weekend I had a family session with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law and my adorable new niece Violet. We had a simple Mini Session in a local Long Beach park.
I love shooting in this park because of the gorgeous light it gives before sunset, and because it illustrates how little the background matters for great photos. In fact, having a simple background, blown out by shallow depth of field (f/1.2 in many of these photos) allows the focus to be where I want it: on my client. Undistracted by what's behind, I get to let their expressions, interactions, and features take center stage.
Sunday afternoon I had the pleasure meeting the most adorable miss baby Charlotte! She's celebrating her 1-year birthday and her whole family came along to join in the festivities! I photographed her and her family at Santiago Oaks Regional Park in Orange County. It's a been a Gautier family favorite throughout the years, and for good reason. It's gorgeous, and a perfect background for cutie pie and her parents, cousin, and aunties!
Today I had the privilege of photographing the Schenkelberg family for the seventh time. Yes, you read that right. Over seven years me and my camera have witnessed their engagement, marriage, their pregnancy, and their adorable daughter, Alex, through all five birthdays. And now, a new addition is on the way and I got to photograph them again today before they meet their newest family member. Such a joy. Such a gift. And today we added a little spice by photographing at Rosie's Dog Beach.
