I love my clients. And I think the feeling is mutual. They keep saying nice things and I love the excitement when they see their photos for the first time after a session. Today I was thinking about how we ended up in this mutual love-fest, and I have a hunch it's because we value the same things and have similar goals -- whether intuitively or consciously -- when we book a session for their family.
Thank you for being you. Thank you for letting me see you, and make images for you of your wonderful family: fun loving, wild, quiet, and silly. You invite me into these precious moments and I'm so grateful. Thank you.
I remember at month's old meeting this little guy in the NICU. He heroically battled and won a serious illness. Now, he's 2-years-old and an adorable little man. We met this weekend, thankfully before the rain came, to capture some birthday/holiday portraits of Isaac. He looked too sweet in his suit and bow tie. He may not have been feeling super great, but nonetheless, his parents were champs and we had a great session in Marine Stadium Park.
Sometimes I have the privilege of shooting people I know well. This weekend I had a family session with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law and my adorable new niece Violet. We had a simple Mini Session in a local Long Beach park.
I love shooting in this park because of the gorgeous light it gives before sunset, and because it illustrates how little the background matters for great photos. In fact, having a simple background, blown out by shallow depth of field (f/1.2 in many of these photos) allows the focus to be where I want it: on my client. Undistracted by what's behind, I get to let their expressions, interactions, and features take center stage.
